A Zone file is a special file on a name server that designates a domain name with all of its associated sub domains, IP addresses, and mail server. Parts of the zone file include the A record, CNAME, and MX records. A zone file is also called a "DNS table". They are one of the basic structures of the Intenet that allow domains to work.
